On September 17, 2011 Cano will face three-division titleholder Erik Morales for a vacant WBC Light Welterweight title, on the undercard of Victor Ortiz vs. Floyd Mayweather. Cano loses by TKO in the 10th round to Erik Morales.[4] He replaced hard-hitting Lucas Matthysse of Argentina, who withdrew with a viral infection that prevented him from training.[5]
